Schönes Messer in gelb

Die Zusammenstellung der einzelnen Werkzeuge ist optimal für meinen Enkel.
Als Senior benütze ich seit längerem die Variante mit dem Korkenzieher.
Als Sicherheitsingenieur schätze ich die Einklappsicherung des Messers sehr. Die "Wenger" Technologie bei der Schere ist top!

I did not want this because after 5 decades of the traditional flat scales, I thought this was a bit much. My wife bought it as a present so I had no choice. It sat in my drawer for two weeks before she caught on that I wasn't using it. Needless to say I started carrying, and using it. I was surprised at how ergonomic it feels. It has become my daily carry pocket knife.

Excellent, if you have never gripped, do it now. You will not be dissapointed

I have carried a Swiss Knife for thirty years and used them every day. I order this knife for the deer hunt this year. I opened the knife and was quite disappointed with the finish and handle material. It seems like the maker forgot to size the plastic to the size of the knife as it protrudes around the body of the knife and is very sharp. The plastic handle looks good in the pictures but is not what I was expecting to see in a original Swiss knife, more like a cheap Chinese knock off.

Looks and feels like a knock off.

I’ve wanted this model for a long time, and a local retailer here in Yellowknife finally brought some in. Very fitting!

Anyways, I love the Delémont made knives. I was a Wenger fan, and really appreciate how Victorinox saved them. The Evolution models are fantastic. I have lots. With the Evo Grip S18 you are getting quality, innovation and usefulness in an ergonomic and reliable package. 

The handles are easy to keep track of, comfortable and don’t look intimidating. They house the toothpick and tweezers just fine. 

The blade comes very sharp. A few passes on a leather strop and it shaved my arm hair. Well polished, lots of belly. I really like the blade lock. Some despise it. There are times it can hook your pocket, but I just cover it with my hand when I pull it from my trousers. It is very secure, and the secondary detent prevents the knife from closing on your fingers after it is unlocked and you begin closing. Ingenious design using the backspring to lock. Very good slicing blade with its flat grind. 

The nail file is great to stay clean and trimmed, but don’t get carried away! You still need nails to open the tools. I’ve used it for a small Phillips driver too, but it won’t take much torque. Not designed for that, anyways, but handy byproduct. Abrasive side away from the blade to prevent scratches. 

Next up is the scissors. These are a marvel of engineering and design. Unlike the traditional Victorinox scissors that use a small leaf spring, these Delémont versions use an action bar that works off the main back spring for the scissors. Absolutely fantastic. Much more robust and trustworthy. The scissors are also serrated, much like trauma shears. They cut well, without your material getting spit out, and instead keeping hold to properly shear it. A little strange motion with the above action, but once used to it, I prefer them. 

We then move on to the saw. The has a tapered grind the narrows at the spine. This is rather clever, as it prevents the saw from binding in its own kerf/cut in the wood. The saw is very sharp, and easily cuts most normal wood. Also cuts plastic, rope, and carves a great jack-o-lantern! Cuts on both the pull and push stroke. 

Finally we get to the last layer of main tools. The openers. First of, your regular Victorinox designed can opener. I loved the old Wenger ones, but I’ll admit, this one is more functional. Works as a small slotted and 2D Phillips driver, as well. Keeps me fed! Across from that is the beautifully thought out Delémont designed cap lifter/screwdriver. Works great to open beverages, or even gripping and turning odd fasteners, etc. It has a built in “wire stripper,” which isn’t sharp, but works in conjunction with the blade. The real magic, however, is the fact that the screwdriver locks in place when you apply downward pressure on the screw you are driving. No more worries about it closing on your fingers! Super smart. 

Flipping the knife over, we find the backside tools. We have a #2 Phillips that works as a T-handle driver. Well ground, fits screws great. Besides that, you’ll find the awl/reamer/punch with sewing eye. This is an often overlooked powerhouse of a tool. Use it to punch holes, drill and ream holes, sew fabrics and more. I’ve fixed a lot of gear with these. Inner strands of paracord or dental floss works great for sewing!

And on top of all that, it gets a keyring. All of that is branded very nicely with a flush molded Victorinox shield logo on the handle that won’t wear away. 

All the tools are highly polished, very corrosion resistant and easily cleaned stainless steel. Warm soapy water, rinse, dry and a drop of mineral oil in the pivots, and it’s good as new. 

I’m glad I finally got this Swiss Army knife, and added it to my collection and rotation. 5 stars!

Excellent field and urban knife.

I enjoy carrying this SAK because being slightly smaller than the Fieldmaster also makes a great urban EDC plus it won't be scary when using it during the Christmas season opening packages and installing batteries for the children toys. Unfortunately I must agree with the other reviewers, the lock for blade should be redesigned so as not create a hotspot while gripping Evolution Grip S18.

Little Fieldmaster

Ok so great knife as always with Victorinox / Swiss Army but what a stupid place to put the lock button. Got this for my daughter for her birthday as she has recently got into whittling. She’ll not use it without supervision for a few years but the lock button is exactly where you’d grip with your forefinger for a push cut with your thumb on the back of the blade. Personally I think the lock design on the forester blade is much much better.

Why put the lock button there?

Another superior tool. The grip is an excellent addition and as always it is tough.

Great Tool...

One of the best assortment of tools I’ve seen. Nail file is much better than an extra blade, Saw is useful, I’ve always liked the screwdriver more than a corkscrew, and the scissors are even better than the normal ones. The steel needs to be sharpened a little more than the typical knife. Also, consider the Evogrip 18 (not s18) if you want a little cheaper knife without a locking blade.

Best assortment of tools for a medium knife

Two problems with this pattern. The liner and scales do not match up with innerspring. They overreach them by 1.08 mm.  The scales and liners could have been worked down to match the springs. I do a lot of fly fishing, and end up reaching a lot for the scissors to trim fly or finish up tag end when tying on a new fly. But I have a hard time getting my thumb between the locking mechanism and opening the scissors. Now the way the main blade is ground with a flat spot at about 50 degrees before it is fully open and locked is really neat. The lock is a good working pattern, and the no slipping material used in the handle has a comfortable feel to it. All in all not a bad knife but you should work out the 1.08 mm miss match. There will be a number of knives coming back to VICTORINOX

Engineering problem.

I bought this knife as an EDC and for an addition to my collection. I love the layout of the features and personally love the locking blade feature. The size is perfect at 85mm, and fits nicely into pockets or Victorinox's 4.0543.3 nylon case. I also personally love how it has the nail file instead of the secondary small knife.

Pros:
- the features it has (locking blade, saw, nail file, etc...)
- the size (85mm)
- the ergonomic scales (comfortable in hand)

Cons:
- the scissors are somewhat hard to open with the nail slot due to position.
- the main locking blade has a 3/4 stop when opening or closing.

Great EDC and size

This is the Fieldmaster with a lock and non slip scales.  I love the scissors on the evogrip way better than the spring on a Victorinox models.  The lock is what made me buy it but I must admit it’s a disappointing feature.  It works well but it’s placement jabs you in the palm when using the knife and for pocket carry it’s real annoying.  It sticks up off the top of the scale and is poorly designed. The lock release also makes it near impossible to get the scissors out. You have to sheath this one for belt carry.   Don’t get me wrong I’m a Victorinox fan and have over 30 in my collection but this one will not go out much for edc.  The lock should have been done like the Adventurer model.  I’m still buying Victorinox but this one missed the mark on usage.

Get a fieldmaster

Das Messer bietet die wichtigsten Werkzeuge für den Alltag und leistet auch bei längeren Ausflügen und Wanderungen gute Dienste. Vor allem die feststellbare Klinge ist ein echtes Plus, die mir an den 91mm-Modellen manchmal fehlt. Die Griffschalen liegen gut in der Hand und sind durch die Teilgummierung recht rutschfest. Einziger Kritikpunkt ist die Form und Position des Arretierungshebels. Bei manchen Arbeiten ist er etwas im Weg, bzw. drückt in den Finger. Eine Entriegelung wie bei den 111- oder 130mm-Modellen wäre deutlich angenehmer in der Handhabung.

Guter Alltagsbegleiter

This comes closest to what would be the perfect everyday carry Swiss army knife. However it does not come without its flaws. In respects of a fast incident to action time which an EDC SAK needs to have, the three biggest flaws are the following: 

1.) The placement of the nail mark on the scissors is directly beneath the safety lock mechanism, and thus requires a longer, slightly protruding nail plate on your finger to be opened as fast as possible.

2.) The placement of the nail mark on the main blade has been put way too deep into the body of the blade, making it inefficient and requiring yet again a longer, slightly protruding nail plate on your finger for it to open as fast as possible.

3.) The placement of the safety switch and the entire safety mechanism gets in the way of nail mark paths, and makes the knife get stuck in pouches. They also tend to ruin the inner layer of high quality pouches.

Victorinox, this is a plea to change the safety lock of this knife, as well as replace the nail marks on the tools, especially the scissors and main blade. What is needed and is missing from your current collection is a reliable medium sized swiss army knife with a locking blade. Please consider refining the following products:

1.) Evolution Grip S18 - by correcting the aforementioned flaws

2.) Evolution Grip S17 - by correcting the aforementioned flaws

3.) Tinker - by offering a model with a safety locking mechanism

4.) Huntsman - by offering a model with a safety locking mechanism

Summarizing my personal experience with this product, these are the pros and cons of the Wenger Victorinox Evolution Grip S18:

PROS
- Medium sized pocket knife
- Adequate tool size and efficency
- Exceptional handling & pocketing
- Offers Locking on Main Blade
- All around strong concept for an EDC knife

CONS
- Placement of the nail mark on the Scissors
- Placement of the nail mark on the Main Blade
- Placement of the Safety Lock Mechanism

Do I recommend this product? Yes I do.

Thank you Victorinox for this great product, it has definitely been a step in the right direction and I hope you continue development, especially when it comes to medium sized pocket knives that come with safety locking mechanisms - we definitely need more of those.

This comes closest to what would be the perfect EDC SAK

This knife, as with all the others in the range, is beautifully made and is big enough for the majority of tasks it is used for. My only problem with this knife is the release for the blade lock as it prevents the knife from fitting into the sheaths I use to protect my knives. The release lever also catches on the lining of my jacket pockets and it is for this reason I do not carry the knife as often as I would like.

Beautifully designed and manufactured but...

Taschenmesser das gut in der Hand liegt mit der schwarzen Gummieinlage.
Vielseitig einsetzbar mit den vielen Werkzeugen und immer noch kompakt.
Schere mit guter Feder die nicht brechen kann.
