Victorinox donate £30,000 to kick start local community projects throughout the UK

Victorinox, the brand behind the original Swiss Army Knife, has today awarded three families in the UK with a prize of £10,000 each; the generous prize donation comes as a result of the Victorinox Family Project where the prestigious Swiss brand set up a nationwide competition inviting families to propose a valuable and innovative project that benefitted their local community.

Initially Victorinox set out to reward one family with a £10,000 prize but they were so touched by all entries they decided to award three families with the money contribution, allowing them to kick start their community project.

The three winning families from Hammersmith, Walsall and Falmouth all proposed projects that benefit their local community and are things which are close to their hearts...

The Fouchier’s

The Fouchier family, made up of mum Sabrine, dad Eric and daughter Mae, 5 years old wowed judges with their project to provide Art and Craft workshops for the local community; breathing new life into commonly disregarded household items. As part of the initiative to educate the community about the benefits of recycling, the workshops will be taken to schools, youth clubs, church halls, hospitals and community rooms to ensure everyone has a chance of attending.

The Baylis-Gray’s

The Baylis-Gray’s from Falmouth vow to get their local community’s creative juices flowing, the family consisting of mum Lucie, dad John, daughter Annie, 17 and 14 year old son Fred plan to provide workshops for families from Cornwall in order to indulge their interest in the polytechnic disciplines. The workshops will help members of the community generate skills that can help tackle unemployment in a fun family environment. The workshops are to be run in conjunction with The Royal Polytechnic Society and offer equipment and classrooms ideal for groups for learning about audio, lighting, video filming, photography, theatre, stage management and music;  enabling the community to engage in the project easily from a centrally located hub.

The Meredith’s

Lastly is the Meredith family from Walsall, really touched judges with their charity, Livvy’s Smile which was set up in memory of their daughter Olivia who sadly passed away in 2008 from neurological condition Rett Syndrome.  The charity run by mum Sara, dad Alan and daughters Kennedy, 14, Eden 13 and Brodie, 9 provides activities for disabled children. Three years into their good work, the Meredith family have huge aspirations for Livvy’s Smile and made a compelling case for how the £10,000 will be used. The Meredith’s application showed how winning the Victorinox Family Project competition would enable them to expand their programme offerings to the broader community; ensuring there are educational and interactive activities for all disabled children and their families within the Walsall area.

Veronika Elsener, brand owner comments: “The Family project represents Energy, Optimism, Exploration, Respect and Proximity; aspects that have been part of our brand for many years. The Project expresses dynamism, demands creativity and emotions and participants have to pioneer and show expertise in different fields and areas. It is about caring for people and is of course family oriented. The project includes all aspects of life and represents life at its best. It was an exciting project and we were not only proud to have received so many good entries, we were touched to see so many people wanting to create something that enriches and gives meaning to the lives of other people. To see all these good intentions and endeavours has been a wonderful and special experience.”
